Anheuser-Busch Helps the People of Haiti

February 02, 2010

In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Hispanic Chamber Silver Sponsor Anheuser-Busch and its employees are focusing on the immediate needs of the Haitian people, including the need for fresh drinking water and the infusion of desperately needed cash to aid in this truly global humanitarian mission. The company's partner brewery in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, about 160 miles from Port-au-Prince, shipped nearly 350,000 cans of water to Haiti the day after the earthquake and continues to coordinate additional shipments.

The company is also working with the American Red Cross to transport an additional 600,000 cans of water from its brewery in Cartersville, Ga. In total, Anheuser-Busch and partners will ship more than 1 million cans of water to Haiti when deliveries are completed.

In addition, the Anheuser-Busch Foundation will match up to $250,000 in donations made by employees and wholesalers nationwide to the International Response Fund of the American Red Cross.

Johnny Furr, Jr., Vice President Community Affairs, and Margarita Flores, Senior Director Community Affairs, said "We are thankful to be in a position to offer our support to Haiti in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake of January 12. But there remains difficult work ahead for Haiti, and its people, and none of us must lose sight of that fact in the weeks, months and years to come.  Like millions of concerned and committed people like you, Anheuser-Busch will continue to offer our prayers for Haiti, and our commitment to doing what we can, from where we are, to help its people in this time of need."
